Perkins kicking up some dust

• Round-up Club’s 54th annual rodeo

Susan Brinker - NewsPress

Perkins will whoop it up cowboy style this holiday weekend as it celebrates the 54th annual Perkins Round-up Club Rodeo, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Performances will begin at 8 p.m. each night at the club’s arena, located on West Freeman Street. Featured events include bareback bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, ladies breakaway roping, steer wrestling, team roping, open barrels, junior barrels (age 15 and younger) and pee wee barrels (age 8 and younger). Also featured will be timed events with a jackpot nightly and as an added attraction wild horse racing will return. This event will be limited to just three 3-man teams per night. There will be a nightly jackpot with the winners taking it all each night.

Perkins cowgirl Cheyenne Brady will represent the home of Pistol Pete this year as the Perkins Round-up Club queen and will be crowned during the rodeo. She is the 15-year-old daughter of Aaron Brady of Cushing and Tina Coyner of Perkins.

She is an honor student and plans to attend Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine after she graduates. This young lady has been involved with barrel racing and team roping since age 3 and continues to race on a competitive level, winning many events.

She is a member of the Cowboys Heaven Rodeo Team and also enjoys basketball, softball, cross-country running, volleyball, riding motorcycles and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to the Perkins rodeo, she will also be making an appearance at Cavalcade, in Pawhuska, on July 16-20.

Admission to the rodeo is $7 for adults (age 16 and older), $4 for children and age 6 and younger are free. All contestants must be paid up by 7 p.m. on the night of each performance with cash only. No checks will be accepted.

The Warren Rodeo Co., of Kellyville will be providing the livestock. Concessions will be available but no glass containers will be allowed on the grounds.
