Dinner helps veterans

• St. Patrick’s Day dinner, bingo held by Morrison American Legion Auxiliary

Once again, good food, great company, lots of fun and laughter were all a part of the annual American Legion Auxiliary Christie-Jones Unit 343 St. Patrick’s Day Baked Potato Dinner and Fun Night held in the Morrison Fire Station March 14.

Over 105 members and guests from surrounding communities including Stillwater, Perry, Glencoe, Ponca City and Pawnee turned out for the evening. Especially appreciated was the attendance of Sen. and Mrs. David Myers and County Commissioner James Gregg.

Jerry Cottom and Jasper Christensen called the bingo and prizes were awarded which included pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and breads made by Auxiliary members, as well as Easter baskets and patriotic items.

Assisting American Legion Auxiliary members throughout the evening were Girls’ State Delegates Kelsey Cottom and Megan Snowden and Boys’ State Delegates Ryan Inselman and Jessie Vandament (who arrived immediately following a basketball game). Junior members also helped distribute bingo cards and refreshments to the players.

Over $1,500 was raised from the evening. All proceeds go to support projects for veterans and their families, as well as to help send delegates to Girls’ State in May.

The Morrison Auxiliary presents a Veterans’ Day program at the local school and also provides poppies and flags on the graves of the veterans in several cemeteries on Memorial Day.

“Many thanks to the members and friends for their continued support in helping Christie-Jones Unit 343 of the American Legion Auxiliary meet the needs of our veterans and their families. Anyone is welcome to join us at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday evening of each month at the Morrison Post,” said Janet Vincent, Auxiliary Unit president.
