Two attend training program
Rae Ann Kruse, business teacher at Mulhall-Orlando High School and Carla Campbell, Family and Consumer Science Program specialist for the Oklahoma Department of Career Tech, recently completed the first year of a two-year Administrator Training Program. The Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education accepted 25 applicants into their two-year Administrator Training Program. Kruse and Campbell are two of the selected 25 who come from Stillwater. During the course of the education and development sessions, OkACTE aims to introduce the class to every aspect of school and CareerTech administration.
By incorporating a preparation program like this, Oklahoma’s CareerTech System may not have to suffer the effects of losing a large percentage of its superintendents and administrative staff as they begin to retire over the next few years.
OkACTE Director Pat McGregor said, “In order for us to continue the legacy of Oklahoma’s great system, we must replace those retiring with new leaders who will maintain the high standards and quality of the present system and who will lead us to new and greater accomplishments.”
The Administrator Training Program was designed by OkACTE to attract leaders from public schools, business, the legislature, managers in government and even CareerTech employees, who aspire for higher pay and more challenging roles in shaping industry, CareerTech employees and Oklahoma. The sessions were even designed to possibly apply toward college credit for those working on a master’s or doctoral degree.
The first session was Oct. 31, and the class will meet periodically until April 2009. Topics include the history of CareerTech, marketing and media relations, school and program accreditation, school law concerning CareerTech, fire safety and online training, distance education, Skills Center orientation, industry-specific training, budget development, building projects, board of education relations, business and industry, innovative programs, cooperative alliance with colleges and universities, political advocacy and legislative ethics and CareerTech teacher/administrator certifications and community and human relations. Upon completion of the Administrator Training Program, there will be a graduation ceremony for participants.
“I’m so excited about this program. I believe that this training will help attendees learn why legislators and state business leaders call Oklahoma’s CareerTech System the most customer-driven education system in the nation,” said McGregor.
