Transform the world

Ott Johnson, Editorialist

My first wife received a letter from Barack Obama, at least his name appeared on the envelop where the return address is supposed to be, but no return address. I suppose when you are a candidate for the White House, the masses are supposed to know your address.

“This is our moment. This is our time,” advised the envelope. I’m not sure who is included in the term “our,” but the implication seemed to suggest a goodly number.

Of course, there was a donation card inside decorated with DNC in tall, red, white and blue letters with a few stars. However, the letter, printed front and back with Barack Obama’s signature, was mostly about change-change-change. Best of all was the “Change the country and transform the world” statement.

Now I don’t know about others, but I don’t want Candidate Obama even trying to change our country much less attempting to transform the world. That would be a major undertaking, especially for an inexperienced man whose only claim to fame is attempting to organize marches among blacks, generally with little success.

There was mention, however, that change included a health care plan for all who want it, which translates to socialism. There was some “change the economy” to reward work and workers? That translates to redistributing the nation’s wealth or taking from the rich to give to the poor and non-workers, ignoring the fact that it’s the rich who create jobs.

With all of the change and un-rational statements, one statement was highlighted to get special attention following a statement of “hope to be heard far and wide.” “That’s why I hope you will seize this moment of great opportunity for our party and our nation by rushing a generous contribution of $35, $50 or more to the Democratic National Committee today.” Moreover, that appeared to be the primary purpose of the letter!

Then, strangely, the fine print at the bottom of the letter stated; “This communication is not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.” What? This begs the question; just who is this Barack Obama who signed the letter if he isn’t a candidate?

Nevertheless, I am now convinced, after watching the Germans and others fill the streets just to view Obama, that he will surely win in Germany and France. However, winning in the U.S. may be difficult with that one plank platform, “Change.”

Like many of us, my primary concern now, however, is not Obama, but the price of gasoline.

There is now one thing preventing oil exploration offshore; the Democratic majority in our nation’s capital; however, their long, paid vacation apparently is more important to them than the people’s serious problems with gasoline prices.

Finally, a big thank you to Oklahoma’s U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn for winning his recent Senate fight that saved the taxpayers a bundle. Hopefully the good senator will get more help from the upcoming election.

Just some things to think about.

Thanks to those serving and those who have served in military services for protecting our freedom.
