ANWR, oil and politics

Samuel Kraemer, Editorialist

Back during the 2000 presidential elections, then-Vice President Albert Gore was heard to say, “the government should work to artificially raise gas prices to $5 per gallon.”

Pete Du Pont wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “we are not running out of oil. In 1920 it was estimated that the world supply of oil was 60 billion barrels. By 1950 it was up to 600 billion, and by 1990 to 2 trillion. In 2000 the world supply of oil was estimated to be 3 trillion barrels.”

All you hear and read in the news is that America is in an energy crisis and it’s true. The real question, ladies and gentlemen, is why? America’s economy is about to tank and the EPA, civil courts, environmentalists and your government are working overtime to hasten the recession.

William (Bill) Phillips of Phillips Petroleum says that the Democratic Party, with the help of some Republicans, are working to “deliberately keep gas prices high and our domestic oil companies small by putting most of our reserves off limits to development.” China is drilling in the Caribbean off Cuba. American oil companies are “barred by law from developing large oil fields off the coasts of Florida and California.

Keep in mind that on the list of world’s biggest oil companies, Exxon-Mobil is 14th and America’s other oil companies are smaller. The 13 largest are foreign-owned and operated and control 75 percent of the world’s developed petroleum assets. By the way, most of them are hostile to America.

ANWR contains vast petroleum reserves. But Congress has made it “illegal to explore and map those reserves” estimated to be approximately 10 billion barrels. Although “some 85 billion barrels of recoverable oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas exists on the continental outer shelf,” the Democratic Congress has barred development by refusing to pass legislation to expand coastal drilling. Congress, with assistance from liberal judges and all manner of litigious ecological lobbying organizations are killing America and many of you voters refuse to see it.

The dollar is worth 0.62 Euro-Cents. With gasoline exceeding the $4 mark and climbing, real estate values falling, American production of GNP down, a large trade deficit and America entering a recession, one could see the dollar eventually becoming worthless. America’s energy companies must be allowed to drill and bring into production additional oil and gas wells to keep America’s economy stable and growing until viable alternatives can take up the slack.

I don’t know what scares me more: Islamofascists wanting to kill us all or American environmental fascist’s who consider humanity to be a parasite that must be eliminated to protect the world ecology.

Dearly beloved America, 232 years old, suffering from a diabolical cancer so metastasized to every organ in her body that help proffered today may be too little too late. More in Part II.
