Dr. Roger Harold Miller

Dr. Roger Harold Miller, 72, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Tulsa, of pancreatic cancer. He was born Oct. 5, 1935, to Harold and Marietta Miller, in Vinton, Iowa.

He graduated from Vinton High School in 1953. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, where he played football and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He received a BS degree in civil engineering in 1958.

He worked as an engineer for Chicago Bridge and Iron Co. in Chicago, Ill., from 1957 to 1963. He joined Hallett Construction Co. in 1963, moving to Oklahoma City to help supervise the construction of the Bailey Turnpike.

He attended night school at Oklahoma City University, earning a master’s degree in business administration in 1968. He then moved to Stillwater where he was a professor and received his PhD in civil engineering in 1973, with a minor in business, from Oklahoma State University. He was a member of the National Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity, Chi Epsilon.

In 1974, he started R Miller & Sons. Co. The company builds concrete structures. He was a member of the Association of Oklahoma General Contractors (AGC), Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), The American Association of Cost Engineers, The American Society of Civil Engineers and was granted life membership in the National Society and Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers, where he was a member since 1963. He was also a certified arbitrator.

His favorite hobby was golf. He won numerous championships and tournaments around the state. He was a member of the Oaks Country Club of Tulsa.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and John Dickerson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Dee Miller; three sons, James Roger Miller of Greenville, Texas and his wife, Joyce Lynn Miller, David Stewart Miller of Glenpool and Gary Harold Miller of Jenks; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Miller of Dallas, Texas and Wilson Davis Miller of Jenks; a sister, Janet Miller Mason and her husband, John Drew Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday in Moore Funeral Home, Southern Chapel, 9350 East 51st, Tulsa.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
