Vivian Laurine Tuttle
Vivian Laurine Tuttle, 88, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2008, in Sapulpa. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Wellston Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born in Wellston on Oct. 14, 1919, to Frank Hughes and Cattie (Grindstaff) Hughes. She attended school in Wellston and graduated from Wellston High School in 1937. She continued her education at Oklahoma A&M College majoring in home economics. She married Francis Tuttle, a fellow student, on Oct. 4, 1940, in Pawnee.
After graduation they moved to Gotebo where they started lifelong teaching careers. While teaching school in Holdenville she attended East Central University in Ada and received a degree in elementary education. She later taught in Coyle, Muskogee School for the Blind and Stillwater Schools.
She enjoyed sports at every level of competition and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys and Cowgirls often found her on their sidelines. She especially enjoyed basketball, which she played in school.
She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. She and her husband traveled abroad and throughout the United States enjoying many new experiences with the C&D Club, a group of OSU alumni. Family was very important to her; she enjoyed any excuse to plan a mini-vacation or decorate and cook for an occasion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Denny Tuttle; one daughter, Kay Black; and an infant brother, Troy Hughes.
She is survived by one son, Al Tuttle of Sapulpa; eight grandchildren, Kelly Daly and her husband, Joel, of Boulder, Colo., Mike Tuttle and his wife, Missy, of Charleston, SC, Chad Tuttle and his wife, Katie, of Tulsa, Jeff Hefner of Tulsa, Joshua Black and his wife, Amy, of Oklahoma City, John Tuttle of Owasso, Ryan Tuttle of Owasso and Amos Black IV of Anadarko; one sister, Elsie Hunter of Clinton; and two nieces, Jan Hurley of Yukon and Kim Merrill of Palmer, Alaska.
