Party-planners should start by calling the YMCA. Groups can rent the YMCA gym, aerobic room, pool, dance studio, racquetball courts or even the whole facility for events.
Rentals are available to any non-profit group whose objectives are in harmony with the principles and objectives of the YMCA.
Several groups have taken advantage of this opportunity, including sororities, cheerleaders, sports teams, high schools, churches and Special Olympics.
Renting from the YMCA for practice space was a needed option for contestants in the Payne County Junior Miss contest, said Richard Hawkins, director of the program. Participants meet often to practice the opening number and fitness routines in the YMCA’s aerobic room.
Initially, the group had lost their usual practice space and needed somewhere affordable to practice, he said. The YMCA was a great alternative.
Groups renting from the YMCA are responsible for maintaining the condition and cleanliness of the facilities while using them. Renting the pool for two hours is $60 and $100 for two hours in the gym. For an overnight event, groups can rent the entire facility and pool for only $250.
For more information about renting facilities in the YMCA, call 372-5833 or drop by the YMCA at 204 S. Duck Street.
