Town and Gown Theatre continues its 57th season with an open casting call for its next production, “Arsenic and Old Lace,” written by Joseph Kesselring and directed by Paul Weber.
The cast requires three women and 11 men. The age range of the male roles are from 30 to 55 and older. The female roles includes one in her mid-20s and two in their mid-40s or older.
“Arsenic and Old Lace” is a classic screwball comedy that follows Mortimer Brewster, a theater-hating drama critic; his two spinster aunts who have taken to poisoning lonely old men with glasses of homemade elderberry wine laced with arsenic and “cyanide; a brother who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt; and a murderous brother who has received plastic surgery by an alcoholic accomplice to conceal his identity and now looks like horror-film actor Boris Karloff.
Auditions for “Arsenic and Old Lace” will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the theater. They will be cold readings of the script. Performance dates will be Feb. 7-10 and Feb. 14-17.
