• Stillwater Community Band plays another summer concert for annual Boomer Blast

Laura Wilson - NewsPress

Stillwater Community Band played its last 2008 summer concert on the public library lawn Thursday, but band members aren’t through for the summer.

They’ll have one more concert Friday to celebrate Independence Day.

The band will once again play at Boomer Blast, Stillwater’s July 4 celebration at Boomer Lake.

“However long they’ve been doing it out there, the band has been playing out there,” said the band’s director, Wayne Bovenschen.

The band didn’t play in 2006 or 2007, but weather stopped the festivities in both years.

The band will play at 8 p.m. on the southwest dock at Boomer Lake. Even though the band will be on the dock, the concert will include the traditional children’s march, Bovenschen said.

Hillcrest Choir will also perform “A Military Salute” at 6:45 p.m. at Boomer Lake Park. The fireworks display is scheduled to begin at dusk, which will be at approximately 9:35 p.m.

Earlier Friday, the 12th annual Boomer Blast Fishing Tourney will kick off Independence Day celebrations. It will be from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., with registration from 6-7 a.m. at the south boat ramp.

The cost per team is $12, and four people may be on a team.

Weigh-in will be at 11 a.m., and prizes will be given based on total weight of the fish in youth, adult and family categories. All participants must have a state fishing license.

Boomer Lake Park will close at noon and reopen to vehicles to begin parking at 7 p.m. Lakeview will close at 5 p.m., according to the city’s website at stillwater.org.
