Violinist plays senior recital on Saturday

Kylie Ahern will present a senior violin recital Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sheerar Museum auditorium.

Ahern, the daughter of Brian and Tina Ahern, Stillwater, began study at the age of 4 with Mahlon Halleck at the Suzuki Strings Studio.

In 2000, she won the Martha Folk String Scholarship in the local St. Cecilia Federated Music Club Auditions. She was a Junior Class II winner and an Advanced Solo I winner at the Junior Music Festival sponsored by the Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs.

She played in the Stillwater Youth Orchestra for one year and in the Stillwater High School Orchestra for three years. She was chosen for North Central Honors Orchestra in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and in the OMEA All-State Orchestra in 2007.

This spring, she successfully auditioned for the OSU music program. She will enter in the fall as a music education major.

Her program will consist of major works by Haydn and Mozart and shorter works by Kreisler, Massanet and Monti. She will be accompanied by her sister, BreeAnn Ahern, on cello and by Halleck on piano.
