Ed Spears will demonstrate acrylic painting techniques on sycamore leaves at Stillwater Art Guild’s meeting Monday.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Sheerar Center, Seventh and Duncan.
Spears has painted exclusively with acrylics for more than 30 years. Painting wildlife scenes on large sycamore leaves that have been pressed and treated is one of his specialties. He also paints on turkey feathers.
Deer, turkeys, ducks, elk, fish and hunting dogs are his most popular subjects. His commission work includes portraits of family pets and homesteads.
“ There is a great demand for Americana and patriotism art since the terrorist attacks, and the war in Iraq. In my work there is a sense of history, nostalgia and a breathless beauty and joy. One of my most requested paintings is for some form of the American bald eagle on a background of the American flag,” said Spears.
He has cultivated a national clientele through exhibits showing at galleries in Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas, as well as art shows throughout these states along with Arkansas and Texas.
The meeting is open to the public. First time visitors the Stillwater Art Guild may attend free as the guest of a member. There is a $5 charge for other guests.
