Allied Arts loves a piano

OSU Allied Arts will present “I Love a Piano,” a Broadway musical revue, in the Seretean Center Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The production is the first off-Broadway musical that Allied Arts has brought to campus in recent years. It will feature a live orchestra supplemented by several OSU music faculty members.

Focusing on the life of a piano, the show is a nostalgic musical journey spanning seven decades of American history as seen through the eyes of Irving Berlin. The musical captures the spirit of America from ragtime through the swing era to the optimism of the 1950s.

The musical showcases more than 60 of Berlin’s songs, including “Always,” “White Christmas,” “God Bless America” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”

There will be an “Inside Story” lecture at 7 p.m. in the Seretean Performing Arts Center Room 123 on the night of the performance that will provide more information about the performance. It will be presented by April Golliver, OSU director of opera studies and professor of voice. The lecture will be free of charge and open to the public.

Tickets for the performance are $15 and $18 for adults and $8 for OSU students and children 12 and under. They are available at the OSU Student Union Hub ticket booth at 744-7400.
