Christmas parade runs downtown tonight

The annual Christmas Parade of Lights will march down Main Street downtown tonight.

The parade, which begins at 7 p.m., has a different cast this year, with nearly half the entries being new, said Collett Campbell, one of the parade’s coordinators.

“Since we have so many new entries, that is going to bring a new look,” she said. “New people have new ideas.”

This year’s theme, “Candyland Christmas,” will host a moving version of the Candyland Game, peppermint candies, various high school bands and, of course, Santa Claus himself.

A number of other organizations also will make their mark on Main Street as well.

“I know we have an FFA group who is going to have lambs,” Campbell said. “They said they were going to bring 22 lambs.”

She also said the Girl Scouts will be riding around in buses, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles will show off a decorated semi truck.

Campbell said hot chocolate is always for sale at the parade, but this year’s vendors are expected to have food, like nachos and hot dogs, also.

Additionally, she said, many of the stores near and on the parade route will stay open later than usual, at least until parade time.

The parade will extend from 10th and Main north to Seventh, Campbell said. At Seventh, the parade will turn and continue two blocks west to Duncan and back south to 10th.
