What’s UP, Downtown?

By Susie Kessler

Willie, get a cup of coffee and sit back and read - this is going to be a long and very chatty article!

The new Nancy’s Fashion and More is the old Nafolka - stop by 716 S. Main Street and tell Nancy Wood you like the new name and as always her store looks wonderful - lots of new spring fashions - the trendy and traditional! Navy blue is a big spring color this season - it looks sharp with red, pink, or yellow. Scarves are big again and Nancy has lots of designs and patterns for a wide selection at great prices - scarves give any outfit that extra zing.

Check out all the activity in the 900 block of S. Main Street - there’s the new popcorn store ready to open any day. Next to it the quilt store will be going in soon. On down the block is Oren’s Deli and of course Miss Stephanie’s Tea Emporium on the corner of 9th and Main Street. Ladies we need to drink green tea and they have lots of choices - and it’s the “real” tea!

If you haven’t been to the corner of 7th and Main to visit the new Hallmark, put that on your to do list. Debbie and Crew have done a fantastic job and the store looks marvelous! If one thinks a house move is difficult - just imagine what a store move is like - not fun! But Debbie and crew have recovered nicely. P.S. this is where Peter Rabbit shops.

The Stillwater Woman’s Club is busy planning their Centennial Tea and Historic Fashion Show for April 29 at 2:00 at the senior center. The Tea is an official Oklahoma Centennial project and tickets are $15 per person. Tickets may be purchased from any member or at Sadie Bryner’s 714 S. Main (but of course) All the proceeds go to the Stillwater High School Orchestra and Band for their concert at Carnegie Hall - don’t miss this fun event.

This Tuesday from 9 to 11, there will be a Hail and Farewell reception at Sadie Bryner’s for an old friend of Downtown - we will be saying hi and bye to Mary Nolan. She is on her way to her new job as Parks and Rec Programmer for the city of Reno, Nevada. Come and wish Mary well on her western adventure!! Even though we hate seeing Mary so far away - it is a new place for us to visit!! Reno is indeed fortunate for the addition of Miss Mary Nolan! Another P.S., Tuesday is Mary’s birthday!

Keep your fingers crossed for the deal to go through for the new location of the Children’s Museum. These ladies and gents have done a fantastic job so far in everything they do - we wish them only the best in all their endeavors.

My pick of the week for favorite food spot - Go Banana’s, (I love the ham and cheese), favorite rental movie - “A Good Year” and favorite city employee - Valerie Bloodgood of the Senior Center.

FYI - Any Downtown merchant can validate a parking ticket so don’t worry about how long you need to shop downtown. We want you to stay all day. So park the car and shop! (no purchase necessary and if by chance you get a parking ticket just take it into any store and we will validate it. I have had the question asked, “Why even have two hour parking”? Because we want to make sure the easy access parking is reserved for customers. (unfortunately some of “us” - owners, employees, would abuse the parking on Main Street if there were not tickets) And yes in a perfect world we would not have to have tickets but…I don’t park on Main Street, (my car is known by everyone and my fellow merchants would tar and feather me!) And some of them would enjoy that!!! Also I want to say our Downtown Ticket officer is a very nice young lady who we all really like. She has a tough customer relations job that she does very well!

See you downtown
