Thanks for donation

Ruth Cavins, Executive Director
Stillwater

Jan. 17, with an audience of sales associates and store managers, Wal-Mart No. 4241 chose to celebrate its pre-opening by donating $37,500 to local non-profit organizations and community support services. On behalf of the Stillwater Children’s Museum, I very graciously thank Wal-Mart for donating $8,000 to our organization. This contribution will significantly impact the continued growth and development of the Stillwater Children’s Museum, and Wal-Mart should be commended for their commitment to our community.

By donating to the Stillwater Children’s Museum, Wal-Mart has recognized the importance of our children. These dollars will be used to supplement our current Museum Without Walls programs, and will serve as a loud voice of community support as we begin a capital campaign for a permanent facility.

The Stillwater Children’s Museum, though not yet in a permanent facility, is already in operation in our community as more than 500 Stillwater children receive Museum Without Walls programming every week. Museum Without Walls, an outreach component of the Stillwater Children’s Museum, takes educational, literacy, and science-focused traveling exhibits into area schools, preschools, child care centers and to community events. Museum Without Walls provides novel interactive exhibits and activities that engage children, build on their realm of knowledge, and motivate them to investigate and learn as a lifelong process.

The ultimate goal of the Stillwater Children’s Museum Board of Directors is to create and build a premier, state of the art, interactive science and discovery museum that provides an opportunity for children to “play to learn.” The Stillwater Children’s Museum will educate and entertain children while serving as a resource for parents, educators, and all who seek to enrich the lives of children. A capital campaign for this new facility will begin this spring.

The Stillwater Children’s Museum is well on its way to making a dramatic impact in Stillwater thanks to the support of Wal-Mart and many other generous donors and volunteers.
