Brown

Joe and Phyllis Mae (Donovan) Brown, Stillwater, will celebrate their 50th anniversary with family and friends at a reception hosted by their children at 4 p.m. April 27 at their home, 5805 E. 68th.

They were married April 24, 1958, in a 1957 Chevrolet on the outskirts of Tyrone with the minister and LaVerne Bradley as witnesses. Brown had taken a construction job out of town several months after their engagement and sent for his fiancee to be with him.

They have three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Rick Perry, Deana and Johnnie Devine and Teresa Brown, all of Stillwater, and one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Tracie Brown, Stillwater. They have seven grandchildren, Steven, Ryan, Whitney, Kayla, Tanner, Jace and Jack, and two great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Samantha.

For the first two years of their marriage, the Browns traveled the country building grain elevators before moving to Commerce City, Colo. Brown worked for 19 years at Ardco Corp. as a plant superintendent. While in Colorado, he also built and raced stock cars, a sport the whole family loved.

The Browns lived in Commerce City with their family until 1979 until they returned to Oklahoma. They established residency in the Stillwater/Perkins area and set up their business, Joe Brown Sand and Gravel. They have enjoyed the 29 years since returning home.

Mrs. Brown attended Bible school at Faith Temple Bible College in Denver, then attended and graduated from Victory Bible Institute in Tulsa. In 1991, the Browns began pastoring Victory Christian Center in Stillwater, where they are still pastoring.
