Glencoe FFA honors members at banquet

The Glencoe FFA Chapter held their 59th annual FFA Banquet May 6 in the Payne County Expo center. The banquet consisted of the traditional FFA opening ceremonies, awards given in different categories and a special senior presentation.

After the meal, Dalton Slavens introduced the 2007-2008 Glencoe FFA officer team. The officer team consisted of President Matthew Campbell, Vice President Kayla Ripley, Secretary Derek Haken, Treasurer Joey DeWitt, Reporter Jesse Baker, Sentinel Kristen Rains, Parliamentarian Garrett Stossel, Historian Jon Kuhn and Advisor Scott Yates.

After the introduction of Glencoe FFA officer team, awards were given to the winners of the proficiency awards and the Career Development Events (CDE) teams.

In the area of especially animal production entrepreneurship, the winner was Josh Teel. In beef production placement the winner was DeWitt. In dairy production placement the winner was Jesse Baker. In the area of diversified livestock production entrepreneurship the winner was Baker. In cereal grain placement the winner was Makayla Haken. In diversified livestock production entrepreneurship the winner was Baker. Sheep production placement winner was Campbell. Beef production placement winner was DeWitt.

In the area of sheep production entrepreneurship winner was Chelsea Broyles. In diversified agricultural production placement the winner was Campbell. In agricultural mechanics design and fabrication the winner was Baker. The 2007-2008 career development teams consist of entomology, Kayla Ripley and Johnathan Evelsizer; agronomy, Kuhn, Samantha Edwards, Stossel and Clayton Griffith; meat, Campbell, Baker and Evelsizer; farm shop, Haken, Campbell and DeWitt.

The award for top Blue & Gold and T & D salesman for 2007-2008 went to Evelsizer. Star Discovery Degree went to Broyles, Earl Dickens and Makayla Haken. Star Greenhand Degree was awarded to Evelsizer.

Angela Henderson presented the Jack and Darlene Henderson Youth and Volunteerism Achievement award.

For beef castigatory DeWitt was winner. For sheep, Broyles won. In swine category Kristen Rains won. Winner of the goats was Teel.

The Jack and Darlene Henderson scholarship winner was Campbell. Every year, the Glencoe FFA officer team gives an honorary chapter degree to an individual that has supported the program. This year’s honorary member was Jimmy Matheson.

Yates gave a speech which during he gave five additional awards. The first award he gave was an award to the individual with the most diverse set of SAE’s, which was Haken. He also gave away a Star Chapter Farmer, which was Campbell. He gave a FFA sash to the senior to wear during their graduation. He gave a plaque to the team with the most points in the chapter.

The team was Kristen Rains’ team that consisted of Rains, Evelsizer, Casey Reinhardt, Sampson Hart, Katie Montelongo, Ian Scully and Austin Ellis. Yates also gave a gift to the senior officers “as a reminder of their FFA years and their advisor is only a phone call away.”

After the speech given by Yates, each of the senior officers gave a special presentation to friends, family and loved ones. This year’s three seniors where Ripley, Haken and Campbell.

The announcement of the 2008-2009 Glencoe officer team was given. The officers are Sentinel Jesse Baker, Reporter Johnathan Evelsizer, Treasurer Dalton Slavins, Secretary Samantha Edwards, Vice President Garrett Stossel and President Kristen Rains.
